We all put so much care money and effort into our skincare and haircare but how much care are you giving your scalp? Did you know that the health of your scalp is actually so important and plays a huge part in having healthy shiny hair? Oh, you didn’t? No worries, I’ve got your back. I’m here to tell you what you can do to make sure you have a healthy smooth scalp.

First, let’s dive into what factors can affect the health of your scalp:

Too Much Sun

Exposing your scalp to too much sun can cause your scalp to get burnt, which then causes it to peel and get irritated. Make sure you’re wearing a hat when you’re out in the sun to protect your scalp.

Tight hairstyles

A snatched low bun or high pony looks great but if you’re wearing these too often this can put a lot of pressure on your scalp and even cause your hair to fall out. Try mixing your hairstyles up every now and then to have your hair out or a loose low plait.

Hormones

Your scalp can become more sensitive during your menstrual cycle or when pregnant and postpartum. So go easy on your scalp and use some tips below to give it some TLC during these times.

Scalp TLC

The best way to give your scalp some TLC is to exfoliate.

Regularly exfoliating your scalp is one of the best ways to promote a healthy scalp and stimulate hair growth. Try and do this 1-2 times a week. So how do you do it? There are some great scalp exfoliators on the market but you can also make your own, I love this avocado oil scrub:

  • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon avocado oil
  • 2 drops of tea tree oil

Mix the ingredients together and gently work the mixture into your whole scalp. leave it to sit for about 30 mins then wash it out with your normal shampoo.
